Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 945

Joe Bergeron's 945 was the gun that put Smith & Wesson's 1911 ambitions on the map, and this is one of those early Springfield-built Performance Center examples wearing the 945-1 frame designation. It reads as a 1911 from across the room, but the closer you get, the more it pulls away from the Browning template. The 945 married a 1911 grip and trigger feel to Smith & Wesson's own internal lockwork, a hybrid that the Performance Center hand-fit one gun at a time.

The slide carries the deep, flowing wave serrations front and rear that mark these guns, cut clean into a satin stainless finish. Front and back flats are brushed bright, and the contrast against the matte sides is exactly what the Performance Center was doing in this era.
