Factory Class A engraved Smith & Wesson Model 29-2 in .44 Magnum with an 8 3/8 inch barrel and high-polish nickel finish. Documented by a signed S&W factory letter and complete with mahogany presentation case and tools.
The factory letter is what makes this Model 29-2 worth a slow look. Roy Jinks researched it himself, and the records confirm a Special Engraved Variation in .44 Magnum, Class A engraved at the Springfield factory, shipped March 23, 1981 to Outdoor Sports Co. in Chicago. That documentation is the difference between a gun someone embellished after the fact and one that left the factory floor dressed by Smith & Wesson's own engravers. This one is the real thing, and you have the paper to prove it.
The scrollwork runs everywhere. Flowing acanthus covers the barrel rib, the frame, the cylinder flutes, the topstrap, the sideplate, and wraps down around the trigger guard and crane. It is deep, balanced cutting that catches light from any angle, and the high-polish nickel underneath gives it a mirror to play against. Look at the cylinder and you see how the scrolls were laid out to follow the flutes rather than fight them.
The 8 3/8 inch barrel carries the red ramp front sight and the white outline rear, with the .44 MAGNUM roll mark riding inside the engraving. That long sight radius and the N-frame heft make this the showpiece length of the Model 29 line. The factory letter notes the gun shipped with smooth Goncalo Alves target grips. The ivory-style panels wearing the S&W monogram medallion were fitted afterward, and they sit clean and bright against the nickel.
The revolver comes in its mahogany presentation case lined in blue, with the cleaning rod, brush, and screwdriver tools tucked into the fitted recesses. Roy Jinks signed the historical letter, and that pairing of documented factory engraving with the original case is exactly what a serious N-frame buyer wants to see before they commit.
