A mid-1980s Colt Government Model in .45 ACP, fully engraved and signed by master engraver Angelo Bee with gold ram, eagle, and pheasant inlays. Cased in a glass-topped walnut presentation box with carved grips and pearl-handled tools.
Angelo Bee signed this one, and that signature is the whole story. Look just behind the bighorn ram on the right side of the slide and you'll find his name alongside the tiny bee hallmark he used to mark his work. Bee learned his trade in Europe before settling in the United States and engraving for Colt's Custom Shop, and his floral scroll is among the most recognized in American gun work. This Government Model from the mid 1980s wears that scroll across nearly every steel surface.
The coverage is dense. Fine English scroll flows over the slide, frame, trigger guard, and mainspring housing, set against a punch-dot background that gives the bluing a soft depth. Gold accents run through it without taking over. A gold bighorn ram sits in a panel on the slide. Above it, a gold eagle climbs across the flat. On the left side, a gold pheasant breaks from cover in full flight, wings spread over a mountain scene. The rampant Colt on the slide is gilded as well, and gold line borders frame the panels and trace the contours of the frame. The controls, the trigger, the magazine release, and the grip screws carry gold to match.
The grips are carved from bone or ivory-toned material, deep relief work showing an American eagle with shield and a circle of thirteen stars. The barrel still reads COLT 45 AUTO, so the chambering is .45 ACP in the classic full-size 1911 layout.
It comes housed in a glass-topped walnut presentation case lined in blue velvet, with a brass nameplate on the lid, a locking key, and a pair of mother-of-pearl handled cleaning tools fitted into the tray. This is display-grade work from a name collectors chase. Buy it for the engraving, and you're buying one of the last generation of European-trained masters who cut for Colt by hand.
