A nickel finished Colt Single Action Army in .45 Colt, fully engraved and built as one of 100 King Richard tributes authorized by Richard Petty. Includes its leather presentation case and signed certificate of authenticity.
Richard Petty won 200 races and seven NASCAR championships, and Colt built exactly 100 Single Action Army revolvers to honor him. This is one of them. The United States Historical Society authorized the run, R.L. Wilson chaired the project, and Petty himself signed off on each piece. Few commemorative Colts carry that combination of names.
The revolver is a third generation SAA in .45 Colt with the standard 5.5 inch barrel, finished in bright nickel that throws light off every surface. Full coverage scroll engraving runs the length of the gun. Frame, barrel, cylinder, trigger guard, and backstrap all carry deep cut work in the traditional pattern, and the polished nickel makes each line stand out. The barrel reads The Richard Petty Special, with his famous number 43 and a relief engraving of his STP race car cut into the steel near the muzzle. On the recoil shield sits a raised gold portrait of The King in his hat and sunglasses, the one detail that stops you the moment you pick it up.
The grips are smooth ivory polymer with scrimshaw style artwork. One panel carries a profile likeness of Petty, the other his signature with the 43. Both wear silver Colt rampant medallions. The barrel address confirms Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co. of Hartford, with the September 19 1871 patent dates stamped on the frame.
The set comes complete in its tan leather presentation case lined in royal blue, with the King Richard tricolor sash, a brass case key, a fitted cartridge block, and the matching brass plaque. The Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Historical Society accompanies it, signed by both R.L. Wilson and Richard Petty. For the collector who follows both Colt and NASCAR, this is the rare gun that sits at the crossroads of two American legends.
