Colt Single Action Army with full-coverage factory Class D engraving from the Colt Custom Gun Shop, finished in high-polish nickel with smooth walnut stocks. Complete with its original Colt presentation case and Custom Gun Shop label.
Full-coverage factory engraving on a Single Action Army is a sight that rewards a slow look, and this one earns it. The work came out of the Colt Custom Gun Shop as a Class D engraved gun, the highest of the standard factory coverage tiers, and the scroll runs across nearly every surface. Barrel, frame, ejector housing, trigger guard, backstrap, and even the cylinder flutes all carry flowing American scroll cut by a skilled hand. The polished nickel underneath throws light into every line.
The barrel markings read clean. COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY along the top, the Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co. Hartford address on the left, the rampant colt and patent dates on the frame. That second-generation lineage shows in the crisp roll stamps, none of them lost beneath the ornamentation.
The cylinder is the piece that holds your eye. It's deeply polished and intricately cut, the scroll wrapping each flute so the engraving reads in motion as the cylinder turns. The hammer wears its color-case contrast against all that brightness, and the screws and pins remain sharp.
Smooth walnut stocks finish it. No checkering, no medallion, just warm wood that steps back and lets the metal do the talking. They're well fitted and understated, exactly what this kind of dress calls for.
Worth noting: the gun sits in its Colt Custom presentation case, lined in orange velvet with the maroon Colts Patent Repeating Pistols lid print and the original FROM THE COLT CUSTOM GUN SHOP label dated 1977. The case shows light age on the liner edges, but the package is period-correct and complete.
For a collector who tracks Colt's factory engraving tiers, a documented Class D SAA with its case and label is the kind of piece that anchors a collection. You don't see them assembled this completely very often.
