A Colt Bisley Model single action revolver chambered in .32 W.C.F. with full scroll engraving. Cattle brand motifs are rendered in gold inlay across the barrel, frame, and cylinder.
Most engraved Colts lean on flowers and scroll and leave it there. This Bisley does something you almost never see. Worked into the scroll across the barrel, frame, and cylinder are a run of actual cattle brands rendered in gold inlay. A horseshoe, a cross, a diamond, a trident, the boxed H over a chevron, a quartered circle. Each one is a registered ranch mark, and stringing them together turns the gun into a kind of frontier ledger you can hold in one hand.
The Bisley itself is the right canvas for it. Colt built the Bisley starting in the mid 1890s as a target variant of the Single Action Army, with that humped grip frame, the wide low hammer spur, and the long curved trigger. This one wears the barrel address out of Hartford and carries the Bisley Model and 32 W.C.F. roll mark down the barrel. That chambering matters. The .32-20 Bisley is one of the scarcer ways these guns left the factory, and pairing it with full coverage engraving narrows the field even further.
The finish is a deep charcoal blue that has gone soft and gray on the high edges from handling. Gold inlay accents the hammer, the screw heads, the ejector tip, and the muzzle bands, and that warm color plays hard against the dark metal. The grips are a pale honey-toned figured wood, slab fitted to the Bisley backstrap with a steel cap at the heel. The bore shows the rifling clearly through the engraved muzzle.
It comes in a felt-lined fitted wood presentation case. For a collector who already has the plain guns and wants something with a story cut right into the steel, this is the kind of piece that does not come around twice. The brands carry their own history, whoever they once belonged to.
