Factory engraved Colt Government Model 1911 in .45 ACP, one of only 35 Sam Colt Signature pistols produced. Gold inlaid scrollwork, ivory grips, and an original Lew Horton authentication letter.
The Lew Horton letter tells you most of what makes this Colt special. It authenticates the pistol as one of only 35 Sam Colt Signature Government Models that came out of this run, and that number is the whole story. A standard Series 80 Government is a fine gun. This is something a serious Colt collector waits years to see.
Look closely at the slide. The deep charcoal blue runs almost black, and against it the factory scroll engraving stands out in fine cut detail. Gold inlaid borders frame the work and the gold Colt logo sits proud on the flat. On the right side you get the gold inlaid Sam Colt signature flowing across the slide, the rampant colt in gold above the grip, and a gold dome motif worked into the area behind the rear sight. The left side carries a gold inlaid pony in an oval cartouche surrounded by the same scroll. It's tasteful coverage, not a gold gun that screams for attention.
The grips are smooth ivory colored panels, each set with a gold Colt medallion and held by gold plated screws. They play against the dark slide the way light plays against shadow. The pistol wears a stainless skeletonized trigger, a stainless extended thumb safety, and a checkered slide stop and mag release. Up top sits a low mount rear sight on the blued slide.
Underneath the engraving it remains a working Government Model. The barrel marking reads Colt 45 Auto, and the magazine floorplate confirms the chambering at 45 ACP with an eight round stack. That matters here because the existing notes call it a 9mm. The gun in hand and the Lew Horton letter both say 45 ACP.
What you're holding is a documented presentation Colt with provenance that traces straight back to the original owner. For a collector chasing limited Colt artistry, this is the kind of piece that doesn't surface twice.
