Colt 1911 TALO Dragon Edition 1 of 400

Look closely at the slide and you'll see this isn't a dragon at all. It's a horned ram's skull anchoring a full skeletal motif, the bones running back across the slide in bright silver against deep blue, with the curled horns picked out in 24KT gold. TALO called it the Dragon Edition and capped the run at 400 guns. The barrel markings confirm a genuine Colt out of Hartford, and the slide carries the rampant colt at the rear in the same bright treatment as the engraving.

The artwork is the whole point here, so it's worth slowing down on it. The skeleton flows from the muzzle end of the slide up toward the rear, ribs and vertebrae and finger bones all cut clean and filled to stand off the dark steel. The ram's skull sits at the front with those gold horns curling back on themselves. The contrast is sharp. Bright silver against blued steel reads from across a room, and the gold gives the eye somewhere to land.

Underneath the decoration this is a standard Government frame in .45 ACP, not 9mm as some listings claim. The 5 inch barrel, the single action mechanism, the layout all carry over unchanged. Colt fitted it with a skeletonized three-hole trigger, a beavertail grip safety, and a rounded hammer, so the gun handles like a modern 1911 even dressed the way it is.

The grips are figured rosewood, checkered in a scaled pattern that climbs toward the top of each panel, with the Colt logo carved into the right side and a gold medallion set into the left. They warm up the cold tones of the engraved steel and tie back to Colt's heritage without shouting about it.

For a collector building a case around limited Colt commemoratives, this is one of the more striking runs they've done. It reads as art first and shoots like a Government second.
