A custom-engraved Colt Model 1911 built on a 1917 U.S. Army contract pistol, attributed to legendary Texas Ranger Captain Manuel T. Gonzaullas. Features sterling silver Lopez Engraving grips with gold initials and a gold Texas Ranger Captain's badge.
El Solo Lobo. The Lone Wolf. Manuel T. Gonzaullas earned that name solving crimes on his own across the Texas oilfields, and this 1917 Colt 1911 carries his initials in gold and his Texas Ranger Captain's badge set into the grip. That alone separates it from every other engraved 1911 you will come across. Born in Spain in 1891, Gonzaullas joined the Rangers in 1920, patrolled the volatile border, and eventually led Company B after the Department of Public Safety was founded in 1935. He retired in 1951 and landed in the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame. The provenance here ties directly to that legend.
The gun started as a Government Model built under U.S. military contract, and the original markings survive. You can still read the Colt Hartford address, the patent dates, and MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY across the slide. Floral scrollwork covers roughly 80 percent of the surface, cut in a punch dot backed style that reads bolder than typical Colt scroll. The bushing, plug, and magazine show polished nickel against the bright frame and slide. The trigger guard has been relieved in a Fitz cut, leaving just a hint of the lower shoulder.
But the grips are the centerpiece. Lopez Engraving crafted them in sterling silver with darkened, deeply scrolled fields. The left panel carries gold inlaid initials M T G. The right holds a gold Texas Ranger Captain's badge reading Dept. of Public Safety, Texas Rangers. The work is sharp and three dimensional.
The package is extensive. It comes in a fitted presentation case with engraved brass plaques naming Gonzaullas and Company B, a glass and mirror Hall of Fame display case, commemorative medallions, and a hardcover copy of the Lone Wolf biography. For a collector chasing Texas Ranger history, this is a deep and tangible piece of it.
