Tailored Arms' first regular-production pistol is named after an invasion. The Torch, a double-stack 1911 introduced in 2026, takes its name from Operation Torch, the Allied landings in North Africa in November 1942. It is a deliberate reference to a company that spent its first several years building one gun at a time rather than a product line, and it marks the point where a Florida Keys custom shop started behaving like a manufacturer.

The company was incorporated in Key Largo in 2019 by Zachary Marcus, a former U.S. Navy Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewman (SWCC), together with two additional partners, one an active Navy SEAL and the other a federal government employee. Marcus has said the work predates the business by close to a decade: informal gunsmithing for deployed service members, done on the side while he was still on active duty, before the three formalized it as Tailored Arms. That origin shows up in how the company still describes itself, as an armorer first and a retailer second.

The early business model was straightforwardly custom. Customers brought in Glock-pattern pistols and AR-platform rifles, and Tailored Arms stripped them to the frame or lower and rebuilt them, swapping in upgraded trigger systems, high-performance springs, and barrels sourced from Killer Innovations. In-house Cerakote finishing, laser engraving, and stippling became a signature, most visibly in the flag-pattern finishes the shop is known for locally. None of this required the company to design or serialize its own product. Every gun that left the shop was, in effect, a one-off.

That changed gradually through the company's relationship with the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce. Tailored Arms became the museum's armorer, building limited-edition rifles and pistols for museum supporters, including the Heroes on The Bluff package in 2025, a serialized AR-15 and Sig Sauer P365 Macro set sold with a signed certificate of authenticity. The relationship extended into a broader fundraising effort, which the company calls Philanthropy Through Firepower, in which one-off builds are auctioned for veteran-focused charities. The company states that the program has raised over $1.7 million in the past year from organizations including the Maritime Warrior Foundation, the SEAL Legacy Foundation, and the Special Forces Trust.

The Torch, launched in 2026, is the clearest sign of where the company is headed next. Built on a hardened 4140 chromoly steel frame and slide with a 5-inch V6-ported bull barrel, a direct-mount optic cut, and machined-in ambidextrous thumb rests, the company describes as patented, it is sold through a small number of authorized dealers rather than built to individual order. For a collector, Tailored Arms is less a house with decades of provenance than a case study of a veteran-run custom shop becoming a small manufacturer in real time, with the Navy SEAL Museum association and its fundraising work giving the pieces a documented, if recent, institutional history.
