SIG Sauer P226 X-Short

Most P226 X-Series pistols come long. This one was built short on purpose, and that single design choice tells you it came out of SIG's German Mastershop rather than a regular production line. The X-Short trims the slide and barrel down to a more compact length while keeping the all-steel chassis and the competition geometry that makes the X-Series shoot the way it does. The result handles quicker than a full X-Five without giving up the deliberate, deadweight feel that German SIG shooters chase.

The slide and frame wear a matte stainless finish, the kind that reads more tool than jewelry. Slide serrations run front and rear, cut clean and deep. Up top you get an adjustable target rear paired with a fiber optic front, and the dust cover carries a full accessory rail. The slide is rolled with the X-Short script and the SIG Sauer logo, and the right side confirms the Exeter import line over Made in Germany. A bull barrel sits flush in the slide cut, marked 9mm Para.

What dresses this one up is the woodwork. The grips are a sculpted, target-style set in figured laminate with checkered panels and a contoured palm shelf, and they wrap the steel grip frame with real presence. The single action trigger breaks against a competition-tuned sear, and the beavertail and hammer are finished in contrasting black.

It comes as delivered from the Mastershop. The hard case holds the pistol, a spare magazine, the factory test target signed by the SIG technician, both X-Series manuals, and the cleaning kit. For a collector building around German SIG output, the short slide configuration is the hard one to find. Most went out long. This one didn't, and that is exactly why it deserves a look.
