SIG Sauer P226 X-Five Scandic

Start with the grips, because that's where the Scandic earns its name. They're carved from Scandinavian birch burl, all amber color and figured swirl, and they set the whole tone of this pistol before you even pick it up. SIG built the X-Five line in its German Mastershop, and the Scandic was the dress-up version that paired that competition platform with warm wood and gold-tone furniture.

Underneath the cosmetics sits a serious target gun. The long X-Five slide rides a full-length frame with an integral accessory rail, and the heavy slab geometry is what makes these flat-shooters in 9mm. You get the single action competition trigger, the extended beavertail, an adjustable target rear sight paired with a post front, and the wide ambidextrous controls that X-Five owners expect. The barrel rollmark reads 9mm Para, and the frame carries the SIG Sauer Inc Exeter NH import line over Made in Germany.

The contrast is the appeal here. A matte silver slide and frame against polished gold-tone controls, the safety lever, takedown, magazine release, hammer, and trigger all done in that bright finish. It reads as luxury without tipping into gaudy. The slide wears the X-Five mark on one side and the SIG Sauer logo up front.

The muzzle shows the twin-port look of the X-Five barrel and guide rod sitting side by side, and the bore is bright with clean rifling. Metalwork is crisp throughout, with the machined flats and slide serrations holding sharp edges.

It comes as a complete package. The factory hard case, the X-Series manual, a spare magazine, the SIG cleaning tools, and the factory test target signed off by the proof shooter. For a collector who wants a German-built X-Five with genuine character rather than another black competition gun, this Scandic stands on its own.
