A one-of-a-kind SIG Sauer P226 X-Five from the Mastershop Prestige Series in 9mm. Features full relief dragon engraving with three-dimensional sculpted head, claws, and spine elements.
Most engraved pistols stop at the surface. This one grows out of it. The SIG Sauer Mastershop took a P226 X-Five and turned it into a dragon, and the work goes far past line engraving. There are sculptural elements here, fully three-dimensional, that no scroll pattern can match. A scaled head with bared teeth wraps the front of the slide, a gold eye set into the socket. Cast claws grip the muzzle and the rear of the frame. A spined ridge runs along the top of the dustcover like a creature's back.
The rest of the surface carries the body. Heavy relief scales flow across the slide and frame, broken by deeper cuts that show musculature and movement. The grip panels are worked in a matching organic pattern, the same hand visible from one end to the other. Select faces are left polished to give the eye somewhere to rest, while the textured areas catch shadow and pull the whole thing into depth. The result reads less like an engraved gun and more like a single sculpted object that happens to be a pistol.
Underneath the artistry sits a serious platform. The X-Five was SIG's dedicated competition line, built in the Mastershop with a single-action trigger, a straight backstrap, a precision barrel, and the heft that makes a 9mm sit flat in the hand. The slide markings confirm Germany manufacture and the 9mm Para chambering.
The Prestige Series was the Mastershop at its most unrestrained. These weren't catalog guns. Each was a one-off, hand-finished and conceived as an individual piece, and no two left the shop alike. With the German Mastershop now closed, the door on work like this is shut for good. It comes in a fitted presentation case with a magazine. For a collector chasing the outer edge of what SIG ever built, this is the edge.
