Prototype SIG Sauer P226 X-Five Signature in 9mm, featured in the 2019 SIG Sauer Mastershop catalog. Carries hand-applied signature slide engraving on a satin stainless X-Series platform.
Most X-Five owners never see the guns that come before the catalog goes to print. This one is exactly that, a Mastershop development piece that landed on page six of the 2019 SIG Sauer Mastershop catalog under the P226 Custom Individual heading. The page shows two pistols carrying hand-engraved signatures across the slide. This is the lower of the two, the one wearing the cursive signature engraving that the Mastershop used to demonstrate its new individual-motive program.
The gun follows the long X-Five recipe. A full-length dust cover with an accessory rail runs the length of the stainless frame, the slide is the long sport profile with wide cocking serrations front and rear, and the heavy bull barrel reads 9mm Para across the chamber. Up top sits a fully adjustable target rear paired with a post front. The single-action trigger, contoured beavertail, and oversized magazine release all point to a gun built to run a match.
The finish is a satin silver across slide and frame, clean and even, with the slide left as a flat canvas for the engraving. That choice is the whole point. The Mastershop wanted a quiet surface to show what a personalized motive would look like, and the signature reads crisp against the matte ground. The walnut target grips carry deep checkering and the SIG SAUER logo cut into both panels, warm against the cool steel.
The gun shows MADE IN GERMANY on the right side along with the German proof marks. The bore is bright. Lockup is tight, as you would expect from a shop gun that never saw a season of competition.
It ships in the SIG X-Series case with the factory test target, both X-Series manuals, a spare magazine, and the cleaning rod. For a collector who chases SIG provenance, a documented catalog prototype is a different animal than a production X-Five off the shelf.
