A one-of-one SIG Sauer Mastershop design study built for IWA 2018, chambered in 9mm on the P226 X-Five platform. Features a fully machined honeycomb slide and factory documentation confirming its unique status.
Most P226 X-Five pistols are built to a known recipe. This one was built to break it. The slide carries a honeycomb cut you will not find on any catalog gun, a dense field of machined hexagonal pockets that runs front and rear on both sides. According to the accompanying SIG Sauer Mastershop letter from Eckernförde, dated March 2018 and signed by Tobias Werner, Head of Mastershop, this pistol was one of five design studies presented at IWA 2018 under the internal title Honeycomb silver. It was made to show what the Mastershop could do with slide structure and serration geometry, not to fill an order.
The honeycomb work is the whole point. Look closely and you can see how the pockets shift density across the slide, tighter near the muzzle, opening up toward the rear. It is machining for its own sake, an exercise in surface and light rather than function. The finish is a soft silver tone across slide and frame that lets the cuts cast their own shadows. A stylized X is engraved on the slide flat, marking the X-Series lineage.
Underneath the experiment sits a proper match gun. The frame is the P226 X-Five platform in 9mm, single action with the adjustable target trigger, the X-Five accessory rail, and a fully adjustable rear sight paired with a black post front. The grips are SIG Sauer branded checkered walnut with an adjustable palm shelf, the kind of grip built for slow fire and a steady hold. The barrel is marked 9mm Para, the frame Made in Germany.
The documentation is what anchors it. You get the Mastershop certificate, the design study letter, both X-Series manuals, the factory grease, and a spare magazine in the fitted case. For a collector chasing one-off factory pieces, a documented IWA show study from the German Mastershop is about as singular as it gets.
