SIG Sauer P226 X-Five Facet Prototype

Every so often a pistol shows up that was never meant to be sold, and this is one of them. The box label gives it away in plain German factory shorthand: P226 X-Five Facet, Prototyp, 9x19 SAO. This is the actual unit SIG Sauer's Mastershop displayed at the IWA show in Nuremberg, built to show off what their 3D-laser and metal-printing processes could do when nobody was asking for a catalog item. The accompanying factory letter from the Head of Sales confirms it: a run of just 25 worldwide, and this is the show piece.

The whole pistol is wrapped in that faceted, low-poly geometry the series takes its name from. Sharp triangular planes run the length of the slide and across the frame, alternating matte and stippled surfaces that shift as the light moves over them. It is cut, not stamped, and it carries through to the grip panels and even the magazine basepads. The slide wears X-FIVE and the SIG Sauer name on the left, MADE IN GERMANY and the 9mm Para chamber mark on the right, with a stylized Mastershop signature engraved at the rear.

Under the art it is a proper X-Five. Single-action competition trigger, beavertail, adjustable target rear sight, extended magazine release, and the deep undercut trigger guard. The grips are layered black and gray G10 with aggressive snakeskin texture and a relief X worked into the panel. The bull barrel sits in a heavy match slide cut with the same angular treatment right down to the muzzle.

The package includes the signed factory letter, the Mastershop certificate, X-Series manuals, the original carton, and cleaning tools. For a collector who chases the pieces that explain where a manufacturer was headed, this is the one that started the conversation.
