A one-off SIG Sauer Mastershop design study built for IWA 2018, chambered in 9mm. The P226 X-Five "3 Dimensions" features a machined pyramid slide pattern that creates true visual depth.
Look at the slide and you understand the whole project. The flat sides carry a machined pattern that reads as solid pyramids stacking into depth, the rows shrinking as they recede until the eye reads three dimensions where there are only two. That illusion is the entire point. SIG Sauer's Mastershop built this P226 X-Five as a design study for IWA 2018, one of five experimental studies shown together, created to demonstrate what new machinery could cut into a slide. The accompanying Mastershop letter from Tobias Werner, Head of Mastershop, dated March 2018, names it internally as "X's - 3 dimensions" and confirms it as a one-off.
This is not a catalog gun. It does not exist in any price list, and it cannot be reordered. The serrations are the headline, but the execution carries through the whole pistol. The slide wears a silver bead-blasted finish that lets the geometry catch and shift with the light, and the diamond field at the rear breaks into that receding pyramid grid toward the muzzle. Roll markings read P226, 9mm Para, and Made in Germany.
Underneath the art is a proper X-Five. Single action competition trigger, adjustable target rear sight, full dust cover with accessory rail, beavertail, and an ambidextrous thumb safety. The grips are gray and black G10 cut in a layered scale and X pattern that echoes the slide theme. A flared magwell and extended base pad finish the grip frame.
That's the thing about Mastershop studies. They get built to answer a question inside the factory, then they get shown once and put away. This one came home with its certificate, its Mastershop letter, the X-Series manual, and factory tools. For a SIG collector chasing the pieces that never reached production, this is the kind of provenance that does not come around twice.
