Heckler & Koch USP Match 9mm

Most USP collectors will go their whole lives without handling one of these. The USP Match was HK's run at the practical pistol crowd in the mid 1990s, and it built far fewer of them than the standard USP that filled holsters around the world. This one is the 9mm version, fitted with the bolt-on match weight that gives the gun its long, low-slung silhouette and screws on past the muzzle to settle the front end down.

That weight does the real work. It carries an integrated brake and shifts the balance forward, so the muzzle stays flat through a string instead of climbing on you. Pull it off and you've got a standard USP underneath. Leave it on and the pistol behaves like the competition tool HK meant it to be.

The two-tone treatment reads clean. A satin stainless slide flank runs against the black contour and controls, with HK USP and 9mmx19 rolled into the metal and Match scripted across the weight in cursive. The frame is the familiar HK polymer with aggressive pebble texturing and the USP molding on the grip and beavertail. Up top you get a fully adjustable target rear paired with a post front, the kind of sight setup that lets you dial groups rather than guess at them. The Made in Germany and Heckler & Koch GmbH rollmarks sit on the slide flat, Oberndorf production through and through.

The slide and frame show light handling marks under the satin finish, nothing that distracts from the lines. The bore is bright.

What lands this one above the usual USP is how complete it stays. It comes in the HK aluminum hard case with the burl lid insert, both manuals, and the factory test target shot at Oberndorf before it ever left the building. For the HK shelf, a Match this intact with its paper trail does not turn up often.
