Dan Wesson Specialist Stainless

The Specialist grew out of a straightforward request. Police agencies wanted a tougher, more dependable 1911 than the ones they carried, so Dan Wesson built one around that brief and later opened it up to the public. This example is the stainless 9mm version, a full-size pistol with a forged stainless-steel frame and a bead-blasted stainless-steel slide that gives the metal a soft, matte finish rather than a bright polish.

The slide carries an inverted top rib and forward cocking serrations, along with front and rear night sights for aiming when the light drops. In these photos, the front sight is marked "AmeriGlo," and the rear sight has the low, snag-resistant profile that Dan Wesson uses on its duty-oriented models. The frame includes a Picatinny rail molded into the dust cover, so a light or laser mounts without an adapter. Front strap checkering, an ambidextrous thumb safety, a grip safety, and an extended magazine release round out the control layout, and the gun wears a set of tan-and-black G10 Operator II grips that key into the beavertail for a firm hold.

This isn't a safe queen. It's a working gun dressed in stainless steel, built to shrug off carry wear and duty use while still looking sharp on a range bench or in a display case. The 9mm chambering keeps it easy on the wallet and the wrist compared to a .45, and the five-inch match barrel gives it the sight radius and balance collectors expect from a full-size 1911.
