Alchemy Custom Weaponry Quantico

The 1911 never really left, and Alchemy Custom Weaponry builds guns that prove it. Based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, ACW turns out fewer than a thousand pistols a year, each hand-fitted by master gunsmith Rob Schauland and his small crew. The Quantico is their nod to the high-speed 1911s that the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team ran back in the 1990s, when a properly tuned Government Model was still the standard for close-quarters work.

This example wears a hard chrome finish over a forged 4140 carbon steel frame and slide, a step up from the shop's signature bead blast blue and a finish built to shrug off years of hard use. The classic lines are all there. Square ejection port, non-scalloped frame, the same styling cues that run through ACW's Prime Series. But this gun is set up to work, not just look sharp on a shelf. A universal accessory rail sits under the dust cover, the slide stop is extended with ACW's own ledge design, and the trigger is flat faced with a clean break between 3.5 and 4 pounds.

Grip up close, and you'll notice the checkered double diamond G10 panels, black and grippy right where you need them. A Stan Chen extended magwell speeds up reloads, a gold bead front sight rides over ACW's designed rear ledge sight, and the hand-fit match-grade 5-inch barrel and bushing lock up tight. Every ignition part has been hand-polished and every edge hand-beveled, so the pistol feels finished rather than simply assembled.

Alchemy doesn't chase volume, and Schauland has spent three decades focused entirely on this platform. It shows in the details you only notice once you've handled a lot of 1911s that weren't built this way. This Quantico ships with two 8-round magazines and represents the kind of hands-on gunsmithing that's getting harder to find at any price.
