Most PP Supers you'll find are chambered in 9mm Police, the cartridge the model was built around for German law enforcement in the early 1970s. This one isn't. The slide reads Cal. 9mm kurz, the German designation for .380 ACP, and that single line of roll mark changes the whole story. This is a Walther factory prototype, a development pistol from the period when the company was still working out what the PP Super would be and which chamberings it might wear.
The slide carries the full Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do. address along with the Walther banner and the Made in W. Germany line. The deep blued steel still throws a bright reflection across the flats, with light handling marks on the high edges and a few fine scratches along the slide. The longer, more angular slide sets the PP Super apart from the PP and PPK that came before it. Broader flats, deeper machining cuts, a heavier presence in the hand. Up front sits the squared off muzzle, and the slide-mounted safety with its red dot witness sits where your thumb expects it.
The grips are checkered brown wood, wrapping the frame with a target style swell that fills the palm. They wear honestly, with the finish softened from handling. The double-action trigger and frame geometry follow the familiar Walther pattern, built up to take service pressures.
What anchors this piece is the paper. It comes with the original 25-meter Walther test target, marked for PP Sup and the 9mm x 17 chambering, fired by a shooter recorded as Bär. Alongside it are the handwritten factory evaluation notes, headed PP-Super, describing an aluminum grip frame without a weapon number and noting the unfired, unproofed prototype condition.
