The Staccato HD P4 is a steel-framed duty pistol chambered in 9mm. It runs 18-round Glock-pattern magazines and has no grip safety.
Staccato used to be called STI, the company behind the original 2011. In 2020 it took the name of the pistol line it had launched the year before, with the same owners and staff. The HD line is an entirely new family of pistols designed with feedback from professional end users. The HD P4 is the full-size steel duty pistol in that family.
This is the base package. It's a single-action 9mm with a 4-inch stainless bull barrel and a fully captive flat wire recoil system. The frame is 4140 steel, machined from billet, and the slide is steel as well. That all-steel build brings the weight to 32 ounces without a magazine, which helps keep the gun steady through fast strings of fire.
Staccato made some clear choices for duty use. There's no grip safety, the beavertail sits higher, and the serrations are aggressive. The HD line also uses mechanical firing pin blocks, which suit duty and concealed carry.
Capacity is a big part of the P4's appeal. It takes 18-round Glock-pattern magazines, and Staccato includes two Mec-Gar steel magazines of that size. Using a widely available magazine pattern makes spares easy to find.
It measures 7.6 inches long, 5.6 inches tall and 1.6 inches wide, with a 1.2-inch grip. The base package has an Ameriglo blacked-out front sight, and the trigger breaks at 4 to 4.5 pounds.
