The accompanying Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation letter ties this Model 5904 Performance Center Special directly to Judy Woolley, the champion competitor it was built for, and confirms it shipped from the factory on February 24, 1992. The Performance Center had only opened its doors in 1990, so this sits at the front of that shop's history, built for a shooter who competed for Smith & Wesson during the early days of practical pistol.

The gun reads as a purpose-built race machine from every angle. A 4.5 inch barrel runs into a multi-port compensator that hangs out past the slide, ringed with cuts to bleed gas and hold the muzzle down through a string. Above it rides a chassis-style scope mount that clamps the frame and bridges over the slide, carrying a period ProPoint tube optic with its On Off brightness dial right where a competitor's thumb wants it. That mount is the heart of the build. It lets the optic stay put while the slide cycles underneath, the configuration practical shooters were chasing before slide-mounted dots became common.

The stainless barrel shows bright through the comp ports. The frame wears a matte black finish with the S and W stamp visible on the flat, a frame mounted safety, and a set of two-piece checkered wood grips that warm up the all-business hardware. The action was tuned at the Performance Center for a smooth pull in both single and double action.
