A factory Class A engraved Smith & Wesson Model 19-3 in .357 Magnum with a 6-inch barrel and smooth ivory-tone target grips. Documented by three S&W Historical Foundation letters and cased with a fitted cartridge block.
Most Model 19s left Springfield as working guns, built to put .357 power in a service-size package. This one took a different path. The factory letters tell the story plainly: shipped on February 13, 1970 to Em-Roe Sporting Goods of Indianapolis, this dash-3 left the Roosevelt Avenue factory with a blue finish, a 6-inch barrel, target hammer, target trigger, and Class A engraving. That last detail is the one that matters. Class A coverage means the scroll runs across nearly every surface, and here it does.
Look at the cylinder. The flutes carry symmetrical engraved panels, and the bordered scroll wraps fully around between them. The barrel is cut along both flats and the underlug, with the SMITH & WESSON address left standing proud inside the floral work. The frame, sideplate, topstrap, and trigger guard all carry the same flowing hand, and the high-polish blue underneath gives the cuts real depth. You can see the engraver's restraint at the muzzle, where a tight band of scroll caps the barrel without crowding the bore.
The grips are a smooth, pale set in classic Smith target profile, fit close to the engraved frame. They throw a warm contrast against the deep blue and pull the eye straight to the scrollwork. Bill Jordan's K-frame magnum was never meant to look like this, and that's exactly the point.
The dash-3 retains the features collectors chase, including the pinned barrel and the cylinder cut for the .357 Magnum. Mechanically it remains the Combat Magnum people know, with the smooth double action and crisp single action pull intact.
The package is documented. It comes in a velvet-lined wood presentation case with a fitted cartridge block, accompanied by three Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation letters that confirm the original factory configuration. For a collector who wants an engraved K-frame with paper to back it, this one earns the look.
