SIG Sauer P226 X-Short Silver Dust Gen 1

The slide is what stops you. Across nearly its entire flank runs a hand-applied pyramid pattern, thousands of tiny faceted points catching light from every angle, with the words Silver Dust scripted in flowing cursive right down the middle. This is a SIG Mastershop creation out of Eckernförde, Germany, and the engraving work alone tells you it never moved through a normal production line.

The build sits on the X-Short frame, the compact-length single-stack chassis that SIG developed for those who wanted X-Five competition features in a shorter, more carryable package. The frame wears deep black against the bright machined slide flats, and the contrast is the whole point. Up top you get a polished beavertail and ambidextrous safety levers, the kind of bright stainless controls SIG reserves for its higher-end builds. The trigger and takedown lever carry the same polished treatment.

Look at the grips. They're a carbon-fiber-look set with an aggressive raised scale pattern, almost reptilian under the fingers, with the SIG Sauer name worked into the texture. They give you real purchase without the abrasion of stippling. The slide carries the Made in Germany roll mark and the address, and the frame is stamped P226 in 9mm Para.

That's the thing about the Silver Dust line. SIG built these in tiny numbers through the Mastershop, and each one carries that labor-intensive faceted slide finish that simply cannot be mass produced. You don't run across them often, and finding a Gen 1 X-Short variant in this configuration narrows the field considerably.

The pistol comes complete with its original factory box and documentation, including the manual and factory test target. For a collector chasing the SIG Mastershop catalog, this is one of the harder pieces to land, and it shows just as well on a shelf as it does in the hand.
