The Noveske N4 Afghan is a 5.56mm rifle with a 14.5-inch barrel and a pinned and welded muzzle device. It uses Noveske's 4th Generation billet receivers and a 13.5-inch M-LOK rail.
Noveske Rifleworks builds AR-pattern rifles and pistols, and its N4 line is built on the company's 4th Generation receivers. The N4 Afghan is a 14.5-inch 5.56mm rifle with a muzzle device that's pinned and welded to reach the legal 16-inch barrel length.
You can choose the barrel in 416R stainless or cold hammer-forged steel. Both have a 1-in-7 twist and a hand polished Noveske Match Chamber, and the rifle runs a mid-length gas system with a low profile gas block pinned to the barrel. The muzzle has 1/2x28 threads and a device that works with Noveske's Pig Pen suppressor. Because the device is permanently attached, the rifle is not a short-barreled rifle.
The upper and lower are Noveske's 4th Generation billet receivers, machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished with Type III hardcoat anodizing plus Armor Black Cerakote. The upper has extended feed ramps and the Noveske Love Handle ambidextrous charging handle. The lower has an oversized flared magazine well, an oversized trigger guard, and ambidextrous bolt and magazine releases. The safety is an ambidextrous 45/90 Radian Talon.
The handguard is Noveske's NSR-13.5 free-floating M-LOK rail, with slots every 45 degrees and a Picatinny rail on top. Inside, the bolt is Carpenter 158 steel and MPI tested, and the carrier is full auto compatible with a chrome-lined bore.
The trigger is Noveske's single stage unit with a 5-pound pull. The furniture comes from B5 Systems, with a Bravo stock and a Type 23 grip, and Magpul MBUS Pro steel sights ride on the rail.
The Afghan measures 33 inches with the stock collapsed and weighs 7.25 pounds dry. One 30-round Gen 3 PMAG comes with it. If you want a handy carbine that feels shorter than a 16-inch rifle without the NFA paperwork, the N4 Afghan is a smart pick.
