Mauser Parabellum P08 Luger IWA '84 Engraved

Look at the toggle and you'll see the tell. This is a Mauser-made Parabellum, the postwar Oberndorf revival of the Luger, and it was dressed by the factory as a tribute to the 1984 IWA OutdoorClassics show. The barrel carries a JWA '84 mark right alongside the .30 Luger caliber stamp, and the toggle is signed Original Mauser with the banner logo. These were never catalog guns. They were built to put German armsmaking in front of an international room of dealers and collectors, and the engraving reflects that purpose.

The scrollwork is the heart of it. Traditional Germanic foliate scroll flows across the receiver, side plate, toggle, frame, trigger guard, and down the full length of the barrel, where it tapers cleanly toward the muzzle. That barrel coverage is hard to do well because of the round profile and the taper, and here it terminates without crowding the front sight. The cuts sit against a satin silver-steel base, with the grayed receiver giving a soft contrast to the brighter polished surfaces.

The small parts pull the eye too. Takedown lever, safety, magazine release, trigger, and toggle knobs all wear a warm strawed and gold-hued tone that plays against the matte metal. The grips break from the usual checkered walnut entirely. They're smooth ivory-tone panels, each carrying an inset oval escutcheon, the kind of touch reserved for presentation and exhibition work.

Chambered in 7.65mm Parabellum, the cartridge tied to the Luger's earliest commercial days, the pistol is marked Made in Germany on the rear toggle link and stamped with Oberndorf proof marks.

It comes complete in its burgundy-lined Mauser presentation case with the factory test target, the original manual, and the takedown tool. For the collector who wants a Luger that was built to be looked at rather than carried, this one was made for exactly that.
