The LMT MARS-HS Piston is a 16-inch, 7.62x51mm piston-driven rifle, also known as the MARS-H 7.62 Piston. It has fully ambidextrous controls and a quick-change barrel.
LMT Defense builds the MARS, its Modular Ambidextrous Rifle System, around a monolithic upper receiver with a quick-change barrel. The patented design lets you swap barrels quickly with a return to zero. This is the piston-driven 7.62mm rifle, part number MLKMWS16PS-MARS, also known as the MARS-H 7.62 Piston.
It's chambered in 7.62x51mm, which also takes .308 Winchester, with a 16-inch chrome-lined chromoly barrel and a 1-in-10-inch right-hand twist. Instead of direct impingement, it uses a piston-driven system with a full-auto profile piston bolt carrier group. A piston keeps hot gas and fouling out of the receiver, so the action tends to stay cleaner.
The upper is LMT's MRP-H M-LOK monolithic receiver with an ambidextrous charging handle and 19.25 inches of Picatinny rail on top. The barrel locks in with LMT's proprietary system using a T-30 Torx screw.
The lower is the MARS-H, with an ambidextrous bolt catch and release, magazine catch and safety selector. LMT fits its two-stage AXLE trigger, a SOPMOD stock and its ergonomic textured grip with a winter trigger guard.
The rifle weighs 10 pounds, has a black anodized finish and comes with a 20-round magazine, a manual and three rail panels. It can't be shipped to several states, including California, New York and New Jersey, so check your local rules before you buy.
