The LMT MARS-HS is a 16-inch, 7.62x51mm lightweight version of the MARS-H rifle. It has fully ambidextrous controls and a quick-change barrel.
LMT Defense builds the MARS, its Modular Ambidextrous Rifle System, around a monolithic upper receiver with a quick-change barrel. The patented design lets you swap barrels quickly with a return to zero. The MARS-HS is the 16-inch lightweight version of LMT's 7.62mm MARS-H rifle, part number MLKMWSLT16-MARS.
It's chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, which also takes .308 Winchester, with a 16-inch chrome-lined barrel and a 1-in-10-inch twist. It runs on direct impingement with a low-profile gas block. The upper is LMT's monolithic rail platform, machined from a single aluminum forging, with a continuous Picatinny rail on top and M-LOK slots on the handguard.
The lower is LMT's MARS-H design, so the controls are truly ambidextrous. The safety selector, magazine release and bolt catch and release all work from either side, which makes the rifle just as easy to run left-handed. It comes with a SOPMOD stock, LMT's ergonomic textured grip and LMT's two-stage trigger.
The finish is black anodized, and the rifle comes with a 20-round magazine, a manual and three rail panels. It's also sold as the MARS-H 16-inch Lightweight rifle.
Like all MARS rifles, the barrel can be swapped quickly and return to zero, so one rifle can cover more than one role. That's a big part of why LMT's 7.62 rifles have been chosen by military users.
