One of Hilton Yam's early custom 1911 builds on a Springfield Armory Delta platform in .45 ACP, signed by the maker. Features a 10-8 Performance match barrel, upgraded sights, Ed Brown reliability parts, and a match-grade trigger.
The letter is what you read first. It's signed by Hilton Yam himself, dated December 8, 2010, and it lays out exactly what this pistol is: the "D" or "Delta" build, the fourth in the original 10-8 Performance series, made to his own personal specifications. That last part matters. This isn't a customer order built to a spec sheet someone else picked. It's the gun Yam built the way he wanted a fighting 1911 to be.
The base is a Springfield Armory WWII model in carbon steel, wearing a matte manganese phosphate that keeps the whole thing quiet and low. No glare, no flash. The slide still carries the Springfield Armory and Model 1911-A1 rollmarks, and the dirty olive scoop grip panels add the only real color on the gun. Look at the front of the dustcover and you'll find the small 10-8 marking.
Underneath that subdued finish is a parts list most builders would call a wish list. A 10-8 Performance 416 stainless match barrel with a fitted carbon steel bushing. Slide-to-frame fit lapped by hand. A 10-8 National Match rear sight with a .140 notch paired to a serrated ramp front with a brass bead. The ignition runs an EGW tool steel sear, an SVI bobbed spur hammer, a Wilson Combat Bulletproof extractor and firing pin stop, and an Ed Brown ejector, all set to a 4.75 pound trigger. The mainspring housing is Ed Brown 25 lpi flat, the safety a CMC strong-side unit, and the whole gun got a thorough dehorn.
Three CMC Power Mags come with it, along with the signed letter that ties the build to its maker. For anyone who followed Hilton Yam's writing on the practical 1911, owning one of his personal series builds is about as direct a connection to that work as you'll find.
