Ed Brown Kobra Carry

Ed Brown's Kobra Carry has been the company's best-selling handgun for more than two decades, first released in 2000 as the original custom 1911 to combine Ed Brown's Bobtail frame treatment with its Snakeskin texturing, and the first Ed Brown pistol offered in an all-stainless build. The Bobtail housing shortens the pistol's grip profile at the back without sacrificing full-size frame strength or magazine capacity, which cuts down on the printing a standard 1911 grip can create under a concealment garment. Snakeskin is Ed Brown's directional texturing pattern, applied to the front strap, the Bobtail housing, and sometimes the slide, designed to feel smooth sliding one direction and grip firmly the other way, right where a shooter's hand needs it most. The Kobra Carry runs a 4.25 inch commander-length slide on that Bobtail frame, chambered in .45 ACP, with magazine capacity around 7 rounds. Unloaded weight lands close to 34 to 35 ounces depending on frame material, available in stainless steel or a black Gen4 coated finish. Sights are typically a fixed black rear paired with a red fiber optic or tritium front, and the pistol includes Ed Brown's usual carry-oriented touches: an extended beavertail, ambidextrous thumb safety, and a skeletonized hammer and trigger. Ed Brown marked the pistol's 25th anniversary in 2025 with a limited commemorative edition, a reminder of just how long the Kobra Carry has held its position as the brand's flagship seller. Being widely imitated across the custom 1911 industry hasn't dented its reputation as one of the originals worth owning.
