The Daniel Defense M4A1 is a 14.5-inch 5.56 NATO carbine with a pinned flash suppressor and the RIS II quad rail. The rail design has been used in SOCOM's SOPMOD program.

It's chambered in 5.56mm NATO with a 14.5-inch M4-profile barrel, cold hammer forged from chrome moly vanadium steel with a 1-in-7 twist. A Daniel Defense flash suppressor is permanently attached, bringing the barrel to the legal 16-inch length for a rifle without an NFA stamp. It runs a carbine-length direct impingement gas system.
The RIS II is a Picatinny quad rail machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, with mounting space on all four sides. It's the rail that gives the M4A1 its familiar look.
The buttstock rides on a six-position receiver extension, and the trigger is mil-spec. Daniel Defense adds an independently ambidextrous GRIP-N-RIP charging handle and an enhanced flared magazine well. An H buffer is included.
It measures 31.5 to 34.75 inches long and weighs 6.74 pounds. The aluminum parts are hard coat anodized, and the steel parts have a heavy phosphate coating. Daniel Defense includes a hard case, and the rifle is made in the USA.
