The BG Defense TYPE-A MK12 MOD 1 is an 18-inch 5.56 NATO rifle built in the Special Purpose Rifle pattern. It has a Knights Armament RAS handguard and a two-stage trigger.
BG Defense builds its TYPE-A rifles to order, and the line includes its own versions of well-known military carbines and rifles. Its receivers are hardcoat anodized and then Cerakoted for durability. The MK12 MOD 1 is its take on the Special Purpose Rifle.
The Special Purpose Rifle saw heavy use with special operations forces. This TYPE-A version is built for marksman work, with an 18-inch 416R stainless steel match-grade barrel in an SPR profile with a 1-in-7 twist and a bead-blasted matte finish.
The rifle runs a rifle-length gas system with a fully adjustable low-profile gas block, so you can tune it for your ammunition or a suppressor. The muzzle carries an Allen Engineering AEMB mount with an SPR collar, threaded 1/2x28.
Up top is a Knights Armament free-float RAS long handguard, the classic SPR look. The upper and lower are BG Defense's GEN3 receivers machined from 7075-T6 aluminum, and the upper has extended feed ramps.
For the controls, BG Defense uses a TYPE-A CCS two-stage straight trigger at about 3.5 pounds, made from S7 tool steel. There's an ambidextrous billet safety that adjusts between 90 and 70 degree throws, a fully ambidextrous charging handle and an extended magazine release. The stock is a black B5 SOPMOD and the grip is a B5 P-Grip.
The bolt carrier group is QPQ treated with a polished finish, and the bolt is MPI tested with a titanium nitride coating. A Magpul PMAG and a 42-inch soft case come with the rifle. If you want a well-built SPR-style rifle that follows the classic pattern, the TYPE-A MK12 MOD 1 is a strong place to start.
