Atlas Gunworks Erebus

The Erebus is Atlas Gunworks' answer to open-class competition, a compensated 2011-style pistol built for shooters who compete in USPSA Open or similar divisions where a ported, optic-equipped race gun is the standard. It's a slide-ride design, meaning the red dot rides on the slide itself rather than a fixed frame mount, which keeps the sight picture consistent as the gun cycles. Atlas builds the Erebus on the same billet steel v3 platform as its other pistols, with a 4.6 inch bull barrel feeding into an integral compensator that Atlas tunes to tame recoil without adding meaningful length or bulk up front. Despite the compensator, the company markets it as light and wieldable enough to carry in a retention holster, not just a bench queen built for the timer. Total weight runs close to 39 ounces depending on options. Standard features include an aluminum Gen 2 magwell, ambidextrous safeties, a moderate grip texture, and a matte finish, with the more recent v3 guns picking up Atlas's redesigned optics plate, Glock-pattern front sight, and patent-pending grip bushings that protect the magazine's ejector from over-insertion. Three classic magazines ship standard, split between 126mm and 140mm bodies. Shooters who've spent time behind both the Erebus and its sibling, the non-compensated Apollo, describe the Erebus as the flatter-shooting, faster-recovering of the two, which tracks with its purpose: it's built to keep the dot still through a string of fire so the next shot doesn't cost any extra time. That focus comes with the usual open-gun tradeoffs of cost and a learning curve for anyone used to a standard-weight 1911, but for the competition shooter it's built for, that's the point.
