Description

This 1969 SIG Sauer P220 Prototype reflects an early development stage of the design that would become the P220. Produced as part of an experimental run of 35 pistols, it shows the familiar profile of the later model while retaining details specific to its prototype configuration.

This example was part of a mechanical trial exploring pressed-steel slide construction in place of traditional milling methods. Horizontal machining marks remain visible on the slide, underscoring its developmental character. It is chambered in 9mm and features a 120mm barrel, 9-round magazine capacity, and an aluminum frame with a black anodized finish. The slide is finished in a blued and sandblasted treatment.

Period features include a left-side magazine release, lanyard loop, fixed block front sight, and adjustable rear sight. Black synthetic grip panels with the SIG emblem complete the pistol’s clean, purposeful appearance. It is presented in a fitted display case.
