Description
The Walther PP Super is one of the more distinctive post-war pistol designs developed by Carl Walther GmbH in the 1970s. While the production model is most commonly associated with the 9×18 Ultra police cartridge, this example is a prototype chambered in 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP), reflecting an early experimental configuration explored during the model’s development.
The design departs visually from the earlier Walther PP and PPK series, with a longer, more angular slide, broader flats, and deeper machining lines that give the pistol a more modern profile. It retains Walther’s familiar double-action/single-action system, along with a slide-mounted safety/decocker. The frame and slide are finished in blue, and the pistol is fitted with checkered brown Walther grips.
This prototype is accompanied by factory documentation and an original 25-meter Walther test target, offering direct insight into the company’s evaluation process. Handwritten factory notes reference internal inspection and testing details tied to the prototype configuration.
Mechanically, the pistol uses Walther’s straight-blowback system with an external hammer, fixed sights, and a slide-mounted safety lever with visible red indicator. As a documented PP Super prototype in 9mm Kurz, it represents an unusual development-stage variant of an important Walther design.
