Description
The Walther P88 Prototype offers a look at the development of one of Walther’s most recognizable late-20th-century service pistol designs. Chambered in 9mm, this example reflects the P88’s distinctive combination of angular slide geometry, deep slide serrations, and a well-balanced frame profile.
Its prototype status is supported by developmental features and included components, most notably multiple factory barrels representing evaluation or experimental configurations associated with the platform’s refinement. Together, these elements provide useful insight into Walther’s design and testing process during the evolution of the P88 system.
The pistol is presented in a traditional blued finish with matte and polished steel elements that emphasize the contours of the design. Controls follow the familiar P88 layout, including an ambidextrous safety configuration that was a notable feature of the platform.
Mechanically, the P88 uses a locked-breech, short-recoil operating system with a double-action/single-action trigger mechanism. The grip frame shows the ergonomic shaping associated with the model, with attention to reach, angle, and overall handling.
Also included is the factory case, complementing the package with period-appropriate presentation.
