Description
This Smith & Wesson Performance Center prototype revolver was built for competitive shooter Judy Woolley during the early years of the Performance Center. Based on the Model 686-3 platform and chambered in 9mm, it reflects the specialized approach Smith & Wesson applied to competition-focused revolvers of the period.
Finished in stainless steel, the revolver features a heavy 6-inch barrel for added stability and sight radius. An integrated compensator and precision-machined barrel treatment further distinguish the build, while the overall configuration points to its intended role in match shooting.
The revolver is equipped with scope mounts and a mounted optic, consistent with period competition setups. It also features a tuned action for a notably smooth trigger pull in both single-action and double-action operation, along with checkered grips on Smith & Wesson’s L-frame design.
According to the Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation, this revolver was originally shipped directly to Judy Woolley. With its prototype Performance Center configuration, competition-oriented features, and documented association, it is a notable example from an important period in Smith & Wesson development.
