Description
A striking cased pair of Colt Sheriff’s Model revolvers engraved by Colt Master Engraver Howard Dove, this set brings together detailed scrollwork, gold inlay, and distinctly American motifs across two finely executed revolvers.
Colt New Frontier Sheriff’s Model — “JUSTICE No.1”
This Colt New Frontier Sheriff’s Model is chambered in .38 Special and finished in royal blue with fire-blued screws, trigger, and cylinder pins. Howard Dove’s engraving features flush gold inlays and type “B” American scrollwork, with a judge’s gavel inlaid on the loading gate and Lady Justice depicted on the recoil shield. Thirteen engraved stars complete the design.
According to the included Colt factory letter, this revolver was delivered to Universal Firearms Ltd. on September 26, 1987. It is housed in a double ebony presentation case and is accompanied by original correspondence and documentation. The revolver is described as near mint, retaining over 99% of its royal blue finish.
Colt Single Action Sheriff’s Model — “FREEDOM No.1”
The companion revolver is a Colt Single Action Sheriff’s Model chambered in .357 Magnum. Like its counterpart, it is finished in royal blue with fire-blued accents and engraved by Howard Dove. Gold inlay on the loading gate depicts the Liberty Bell, while the recoil shield features an Eagle and Shield motif surrounded by thirteen stars and the inscription “LIBERTY OR DEATH.” Scrollwork and flush gold leaf inlays continue across the backstrap and trigger guard.
This revolver is described as retaining over 99% of its original finish and as mechanically perfect.
Together, the pair presents a cohesive theme of freedom and justice, expressed through Dove’s engraving, gold work, and Colt Sheriff’s Model forms.
