The SIG Sauer X-Five is the flagship competition pistol of SIG Sauer’s Mastershop lineup, a full-size, hand-built target and competition pistol designed specifically for the demands of IPSC Standard division and precision target shooting. Built on the P226 platform and featuring a 5-inch barrel—the extended length relative to the standard P226’s 4.4-inch barrel providing improved sight radius and slight velocity increase—the X-Five represents SIG Sauer’s most comprehensive factory effort to produce a pistol competitive with the best custom competition builds, without requiring the buyer to commission separate custom work.
The X-Five’s defining characteristics are its exceptional trigger and the quality of its assembly. The single-action trigger—the X-Five operates in single-action only, with the hammer manually cocked or a decocking option available—is adjusted to provide a pull that competitive shooters find ideal: light, crisp, and consistent across extended strings of fire. The hammer reset is short and positive, facilitating rapid accurate follow-up shots. This trigger quality is the result of careful fitting and adjustment by Mastershop craftsmen and represents a standard that most production pistols cannot approach.
The extended slide features front cocking serrations in addition to the standard rear serrations, the underside rail accommodates a counterweight, and the grip ergonomics are optimized for the supported two-hand grip used in competition. The magazine well is slightly beveled for faster reloads, and the overall pistol is adjusted for match-grade fit between slide and frame.
IPSC and USPSA competitors have used X-Five pistols in Standard division competition with considerable success, and the pistol has established a reputation as one of the finest factory competition pistols available from any major manufacturer. It represents the combination of SIG Sauer’s manufacturing quality, Mastershop craftsmanship, and competition-specific engineering in a single coherent package.
