Description

This John Martz Walther P38 Prototype Set brings together an experimental .45 ACP-configured Walther P38 and a dedicated Martz-marked .38 Super conversion top end in a fitted hardwood presentation case. A brass plaque inside the case identifies it as a Prototype P38 in .45 ACP / .38 Super calibers and is dated September 20, 1995.

The pistol preserves the recognizable Walther P38 profile while incorporating an extended barrel and slide assembly that gives it a distinctive long-slide appearance. Checkered walnut grips add warmth and contrast to the satin-finished metalwork, while the overall presentation reflects the careful fitting and machining associated with Martz’s work.

The included .38 Super conversion assembly expands the set’s technical interest and highlights the adaptable nature of this prototype configuration. Housed in a blue-lined hardwood case with custom-cut recesses for the pistol, conversion assembly, and magazine, the set also features brass nameplates, including one crediting the case maker, Robert Edwards.

Combining classic Walther design with John Martz’s custom approach, this dual-caliber prototype set is a distinctive presentation centered on experimentation, engineering, and craftsmanship.
