Description
This 1953 Colt Government Model features extensive floral scroll engraving by John Adams Jr., whose “JAII” mark appears beneath the right-hand grip. The engraving extends across nearly every surface, including the magazine baseplate, giving the pistol a richly detailed, cohesive presentation.
The slide retains the classic Rampant Colt and model markings on the left side, while the Hartford address appears on the right. Smooth grips provide a restrained contrast to the ornate metalwork.
Included with the pistol is its original Colt factory letter, documenting shipment as part of a ten-gun batch to John J. Tobler Inc. in Union City, New Jersey, on December 23, 1953. It is also accompanied by a vintage Kraft-style box with a hand-labeled tag matching the gun’s details.
Condition is described as exceptional, with over 99% of the original blued finish remaining. Mechanically sound and visually striking, this engraved Colt Government Model brings together period Colt production, master engraving, and original accompanying documentation.
