Description
The Walther P5 Compact Prototype is a developmental variation of Walther’s post-war service pistol line, built on the established P5 platform. Developed by Carl Walther GmbH in Ulm, Germany, it reflects the company’s work to refine ergonomics and reduce overall size while retaining the defining mechanical layout of the P5 series.
Evolving from the Walther P38 design, the P5 platform kept the locked-breech system and double-action/single-action trigger arrangement associated with the model. This compact prototype also incorporates hallmark P5 features including the distinctive left-side ejection port, slide-mounted safety/decocker, and exposed hammer.
Chambered in 9mm, this prototype presents a more concealable configuration with a shortened slide and barrel profile. Its sculpted frame and angular slide geometry preserve the visual identity of the P5 family, while checkered walnut grip panels add a classic finishing touch to the overall design.
For collectors and enthusiasts interested in Walther development pieces, the Walther P5 Compact Prototype offers a close look at the design direction behind one of the company’s most recognizable service pistol platforms.
